Dead Bone Tree, Gymnocladus dioica
The dead bone tree, originally from North America, is a unique sight in Europe. Its pale wood and hard, bone-like seeds in pods gave it its mysterious name. It leafs out late in the spring, making the tree look bare for a long time. Not many animals or insects benefit from this tree in Europe. It is usually planted as an ornamental tree because of its bare branches and orange autumn color. So, it is a special tree to see, but not very good for biodiversity.
